University of Lincoln – Create your Future

The University of Lincoln commissioned Born Agency to create a concept design for the UCAS recrutment exhibition for London and Manchester events. The brief was to create a stand design that stood out and attracted attention as the event is to showcase the university to potential students for the College of Arts. This is a vital show for all universities exhibiting at the show as creativity was high on the agenda.

The brief also included Born to manage all the paperwork, ordering of all products to make the stand and to build on site.

Our starting point was to look at the space and how it could work, we wanted to create interest at the same time as showcasing the university’s courses to the students. We looked at materials to manufacture the framework as we didn’t want to go down the normal routes, but wanted to use products that hadn’t been used before, or used but in different circumstances.

We decided to create the stand structure from a product normally used for hand rails, the type you find on staircases in and around city centres. The galvanised metal finish gave us an urban feel, we teamed this with wooden scaffolding planks to make tables and shelves. Graphics were created and produced in heavy cotton, printed in full colour and were suspended from the framework. Other graphics were produced printed in full colour and back lit with LED lighting. We created space in the design for groups of people and sectioned the stand into front, middle and back-wall, this gave the visitor the correct feeling when walking on to the stand and allowed the university team room to show the information without being croweded.

The stand was received at the London show by the client and visitors so well, that other universities were photographing the stand with great interest. Later this year it will be re-built at the Manchester event by us and in future can be re-used for events as well as on campus in full or in parts.

The stand area was a 6 metre x 6 metre space, but when taken down can be stored in an area of 1 metre x 2.4 metres.
