Starting my career in the creative industry was a dream come true, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a role at Born Agency so soon after graduating from university in July. I joined the team at the end of September, and while I was excited, I quickly realised just how different working for a design studio is compared to university life… income my junior design top tips!
Transitioning from student to professional wasn’t without its challenges. At university, deadlines felt flexible, and there was room for error, but the real world doesn’t work that way. Here are a couple of junior designer tips I’ve picked up in my first few months:
These lessons have been eye-opening, and they’re not things the educational system really prepares you for.
I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my career. The team at Born has been incredibly supportive and welcoming, making my first junior role an absolute joy. From day one, I’ve been surrounded by talented and kind colleagues who are always willing to offer guidance and encouragement.
They say it takes six months to truly find your groove in a new job, and while I’m only halfway there, I feel like I’m making great progress. I’ve learned so much already, like the importance of grids in editorial design and the value of asking for help when needed.
These past few months have only deepened my love for design and the creative industry. Every day, I walk into the studio excited about the work I get to do. Whether it’s brainstorming concepts, refining layouts, or collaborating with the team, I genuinely enjoy every part of the process.
Starting at Born Agency has been an incredible experience, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to grow as a designer in such a supportive environment. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that finding your place in the industry can be tough, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.
For anyone about to take their first steps into the creative world, my advice is simple: embrace the challenges, be willing to learn, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
